The Super Serious Show

Sean Conroy is a sly, smart, and exceedingly silly comedian, writer, and performer with decades of experience in television, stand-up, improv, and teaching. Known to some as a “comedian’s comedian,” and others as a “comic’s comic,” Sean’s work blends sharp intelligence with absurd but grounded humor.

Performance

As a stand-up, Sean has been featured on Comedy Central and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. His one-man show, Taught, was chosen for the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado.

As an improviser, Sean is a longtime member of the Upright Citizens Brigade community. He’s performed for decades in the flagship improv show ASSSSCAT. The UCB even asked him to perform with them in the UCB Live Special in 2007. He was also a founding member of The Swarm, the theater’s legendary first house team.

On screen, he’s appeared in Comedy Bang! Bang!, Review with Forrest MacNeil, Children’s Hospital, The Goldbergs, Love, Inc., and more—usually playing what he affectionately calls “Weird Guy.”

Writing & Production

Sean has written for Adult Swim, Comedy Central, Seeso, MTV, NBC, ABC, and Spike TV. Most notably, he was Head Writer of Mr. Pickles on Adult Swim, a cult favorite animated series about a satanic serial-killer dog.

He also served as Head Writer and Executive Producer for Gentlemen Lobsters, an animated series on Seeso about two millennial bros (who happen to be lobsters). His additional writing credits include Key & Peele (for which he recieved a Writers Guild of America Award nomination) and numerous other comedy projects across television and digital platforms.

In 2024, Sean wrote and directed his first short film, Over the Line, which was selected for the Beverly Hills Film Festival. His work behind the camera continues his signature blend of intelligence, absurdity, and heart.

Podcasting

Sean has been a prolific voice in podcasting since its early days. He co-hosted over 500 episodes of The Long Shot Podcast (2010–2024), a conversational hangout show that built a loyal audience over almost 14 years.

He created and hosted Sean Conroy Gets Happier (about self-improvement and comedy) and The Flabbergast, (sketch comedy he also wrote and performed) created and co-hosted The Great American Cabinet of Curiosities (a storytelling show), and co-created and co-hosted CoPilots (television writers discussing television pilots).

Sean also recently launched Punching Up with Sean Conroy, a show about writing, comedy, Hollywood, and the intersection of all three.

TEACHING

Sean began teaching a year after college and has never really stopped. After six years teaching junior high school in New York City, he transitioned into comedy education at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, where he’s taught advanced improv and sketch comedy for nearly two decades.

He also teaches courses in sitcom writing and pilot creation, helping aspiring writers develop their own voices and understand the craft of television. His teaching credits include workshops and consulting at Columbia and NYU’s business schools.

Sean Conroy’s comedy explores the ridiculous inconsistencies of everyday life with warmth, wit, and an unmatched instinct for the absurd. Whether he’s improvising, performing stand-up, writing television, or teaching, his goal remains the same: to make sense of things by making people laugh.

Sean holds a B.A. in English from the College of the Holy Cross. He dropped out of graduate school.
